Meskouta Cake with Oranges: A Sweet Moroccan Delight

Lock IconJun 21, 2025

Meskouta is a beloved Moroccan cake, known for its light, airy texture that resembles a sponge cake. While it can be flavored with various ingredients like lemon or vanilla, today, we’re diving into a delicious variation that combines the fresh, zesty flavor of oranges. Just like the nourishing properties of the Moroccan Hair Care Trio, this cake brings a refreshing burst of vitality with every bite, offering a natural sweetness and comfort.

Perfect for any occasion, this easy-to-make Moroccan orange cake requires minimal ingredients but delivers an unforgettable taste. And just as we treat our hair with care, you’ll find joy in baking this simple, yet flavorful treat.

Serves: 12 servings

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice (from 1 or 2 oranges)
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

For the Dressing (Optional):

  • Orange jam
  • Coconut flakes
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Crushed almonds (for garnish)

Method:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350° F (180° C). Grease and flour a bundt or tube cake pan.
  2. Wash and zest the oranges, then juice them to yield the necessary orange juice.
  3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer or whisk to beat the eggs and sugar until pale and thick.
  4. Gradually add the vegetable oil while continuing to mix, ensuring the ingredients are well combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add this dry mixture to the egg and sugar mix, stirring gently to combine.
  6. Pour in the freshly squeezed orange juice and beat until smooth. Add the vanilla and orange zest, mixing again until incorporated.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top. Bake for approximately 40 minutes, or until the cake pulls away from the sides of the pan and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 7 to 10 minutes before carefully transferring it to a rack to cool completely.
  9. Once the cake has cooled, you can optionally top it with orange jam, coconut flakes, or a dusting of powdered sugar. Garnish with crushed almonds or a sprinkle of orange zest for an extra burst of flavor.

Conclusion:
This Moroccan Orange Meskouta Cake is a perfect blend of simple ingredients and delightful flavors. Whether you enjoy it on its own or with a touch of jam and coconut, it’s sure to be a hit.
